Here some additional findings:
I normally use 6 volumes which are mounted by logging in using a script. When 
only one volume is mounted, copying via Nautilus over the LAN occurs at 
“normal” pace. But when mounting two or more volumes, every copy operation is 
getting appalling slow. It affects then copying files from a USB-Drive too. It 
looks as if it is a matter of allocated memory space.
The same scripts work with 16.04 LTS without problems.
