I have figured out how to make the machine go to sleep. press alt on the shutdown menu makes the machine go to sleep and immediately wake up again. Do it again and it goes to sleep.
HOWEVER: This triggers another issue: Resume does not work every second time (requires reboot). I could not figure out why this behaviour is like it is. Since the syslog is not the destination of logs any more (journalctl is) the messages are somewhat arbitrary. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1799038 Title: Ubuntu 18.10 does not suspend on lid close To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1799038/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
