In journalctl I found that whenever the machine reached suspend target, ACPI kicked in to wake the machine again.
kernel: ACPI: Low-level resume complete Today, I put the machine to sleep (using the alt option on the shutdown menu). The machine woke up every two seconds and went to sleep again (for over half an hour). Finally and for no obvious reason, the machine kept sleeping until I woke it up 3 hours later.
