I have managed to get the 2.6.23 kernel working with Kamikaze5 patches. I have sound, glorious sound!!
It only took me about 2 or 3 weeks and that is time I'll never get back :) I don't have my video working right yet or the network, but don't see those as being too difficult to get going. For anyone interested, I did the following: 1. download 2.6.23 source (not x.23.1) from kernel.org 2. download the kamikaze5 patches (cd into kernel source top level dir, then do a "patch -p1 < whatever_the_kamimikaze_patch_filename" 3. did the fix on ec.c as described above I'll attach my .config. I do "make gconfig". Then my build steps are: make-kpkg clean make clean make-kpkg kernel_image dpkg -i ../linux- image-2.6.23-kamikaze5_2.6.23-kamikaze5-10.00.Custom_i386.deb update-initramfs -c -k 2.6.23-kamikaze5 My grub entry is: title Ubuntu 7.10, kernel 2.6.23-kamikaze5 Default root (hd0,0) kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=UUID=feabbedf-85ad-4e36-be39-3e00fec57275 ro initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.23-kamikaze5 savedefault I know it would be great to get the 2.6.23 patch into the 2.6.22 kernel, but I just don't know how. In addition, the are probably using the 2.6.23 kernel in a future version of Ubuntu anyway. If someone knows how to get it in, I say go for it. If anyone uses this and fixes network or video - please let me know. Otherwise I'll post here when I've got it fixed.
