I'll add it's actually problematic that pavucontrol (not -qt) recommends pulseaudio instead of depending on it. If you look at the upstream codebase: https://freedesktop.org/software/pulseaudio/pavucontrol/ it says "Obviously pavucontrol requires an installation of PulseAudio."
