Hi, I had this same issue while updating ubuntu 20, however, I have noticed that kernal hung error while the update stalled.
So I have added the following in /etc/sysctl.conf and rebooted the server, this issue has gone(we can apply those parameter without restarting server usings sysctl -w vm.dirty_background_ratio=5. vm.dirty_background_ratio=5 vm.dirty_ratio=10 vm.swappiness=30 vm.vfs_cache_pressure=50 I have tried 4 different vms and it works with the workaround. Kernal is used as follows; 5.4.0-26-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP Mon Apr 20 16:58:30 UTC 2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I am sure the could help some people out there to resolve this issue asap.
