Some further info for my case.
When I started the upgrade the first thing it reported was that:
go-mtpfs
gocryptfs
were from an "Unknown origin" (sorry, I forget to note the exact text
here).
However, at the end of the upgrade these packages were still installed and were
still the same.
They are, in fact, both "standard" Ubuntu packages and the same package file
seems to be used for both Oracular and Plucky.
