If not yet confirmed, then I will like to confirm that I have probably the same bug in comment #10. I update the firmware and everything seems successful but when rebooting (immediately when prompted) the computer boots immediately into the OS without actually updating the firmware.
fwupd version is 2.0.7 and when I run the efibootmgr command then the trailing File(.\fwupdx64.efi) part is missing.
