Confirmed that adding intel_iommu=off as a kernel boot parameter allows
me to upgrade back to the officially supported 6.8.0-x series without
experiencing hangs. Thank you for finding the workaround!

I think that either this or #2073648 should remain open. You mentioned
in #2073648 that you were tempted to close it, because upgrading to
6.14.0-x kernel resolves the issue for you, however this is not
officially supported on 24.04 LTS and I feel we ought to find a
resolution that is officially supported on the latest LTS version before
closing the bug.
