Thanks for filing this, Jeremy. It was suggested to the R package maintainers to start with leaf packages, but that doesn't seem to have happened.
One of the first uploads was r-cran-bit64 which has quite a few reverse dependencies, and several of them are maintained outside of this team. I don't think bugs have been filed against the reverse dependencies in Debian.
