This is a deprecated way to add a repository by apt-add-repository and by this
syntax you can not give the pocket (i.e. suite or archive for codename) name,
but area names (i.e. components). More recent versions of add-apt-repository
give you preview of what is going to change and let you cancel before making
changes.
Older documentation tells this syntax only in --help text, not in the manual
page. Newer documentation does not tell you to use quotes when using the
deprecated ways.

Anyway, the reporter did not give a complete apt line so this is the
expected behavior or at least documented somewhere.
