Additional information: I have attached a ZIP archive containing all relevant data for analysis: - debug log (nautilus-debug.log) - example files (PNG, JPG, MP3) - thumbnail cache folders (including fail/gnome-thumbnail-factory/) - screenshot of the observed behavior
Observation: When opening Nautilus, the issue occurs immediately. A 1x1 pixel thumbnail file is created directly in: ~/.cache/thumbnails/fail/ This happens without any visible attempt to generate a real thumbnail. From that point on, all files are treated as "failed", and Nautilus does not attempt to generate thumbnails anymore. The attached screenshot shows the state after opening the folder, where thumbnails should have been generated, but were not. Important: This is not a file-specific issue. It affects all tested file types (images, embedded album art in MP3, video thumbnails). Manual tests confirm that external thumbnailers (e.g. gdk-pixbuf- thumbnailer) are working correctly. --- ls /usr/share/thumbnailers/ evince.thumbnailer gdk-pixbuf-thumbnailer.thumbnailer heif.thumbnailer totem.thumbnailer ffmpegthumbnailer.thumbnailer gnome-font-viewer.thumbnailer librsvg.thumbnailer webp-pixbuf.thumbnailer --- This suggests that Nautilus marks files as failed prematurely, before any actual thumbnail generation takes place. ** Attachment added: "thumb-test-cache.zip" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/2148075/+attachment/5960591/+files/thumb-test-cache.zip -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2148075 Title: Nautilus incorrectly marks thumbnails as failed although thumbnailers work correctly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/2148075/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
