After review, this appears to be a regression in tmux 2.5 rather than a
byobu bug — commenters confirmed that downgrading to tmux 2.3 resolved
the issue entirely. Byobu has no control over how tmux handles session
lifecycle internally.
This bug was reported against Ubuntu 17.10 (Artful), which reached end
of life in July 2018. If this is still reproducible on a current
supported Ubuntu release with a modern tmux version, please open a new
bug with updated reproduction steps.
Marking Invalid.
