You are right:

Ubuntu Dock enabled: 6 failures in 30 login sessions (Applications Grid empty).
Ubuntu Dock disabled: 0 failures in 30 login sessions.

Previously, I had only disabled the extension after the issue had
already occurred, which did not restore the Applications Grid. However
logging in with it disabled appears to prevent the issue.
