- Please revert nvidia-graphics-drivers-470 back to the version 470.256.02-0ubuntu0.24.04.1 with a version increment to 470.256.02-0ubuntu0.24.04.6 to restore the nvidia 470 driver. For both noble and jammy. - Please re-enable linux-modules-nvidia-470-generic by re-adding it back to linux-restricted-modules and publishing. For both noble and jammy. Noble only needs to be done for the GA 6.8 kernel. - Please retract your discourse post about retiring the 470 drivers. https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/action-required-ubuntu-to-retire-legacy-nvidia-graphics-drivers-470/77725 Possibly add a statement about driver EOL and potential risks, but still being available for users to use through jammy and noble's entire lifecycle. Ideally to build user confidence that users will not be regressed again. Since linux-restricted-modules needs to be done in a Kernel SRU cycle, looking at https://kernel.ubuntu.com/, patches would need to be submitted by 29th of July to make 2026.08.03, to be released in the week of 31st of August, or realistically, sometime in the first week of September. That would mean this regression went on for three months, already a long time. Delaying to the next SRU cycle would add on another month, and would likely upset users further.
