Public bug reported:
dh-fortran 0.85 resolves the name "gfortran" through a hardcoded table to
"gfortran-16" before checking what is installed. Ubuntu's default gfortran
is still 15, so the lookup fails and any package that names gfortran
explicitly dies with:
Error: fc compiler gfortran is broken; bad symlink or missing
install?
eccodes 2.48.1-1 fails this way on all build architectures, in
debian/rules clean, before compiling anything. It has been stuck in
stonking-proposed since 2026-08-19 as a result. That in turn leaves the
release pocket with eccodes 2.45.0-1 against eckit 2.2.0-1, whose
eckit::geo symbols no longer match, so glgrib FTBFS at link time and is
red on the glew transition.
Debian is unaffected for now because its default gfortran is 16.
