** Description changed: [ Description ] OpenTelemetry Injector is part of a larger observability toolset. It is a shared library that is meant to be used with LD\_PRELOAD and similar methods. Then, the injector can be used to enable automatic zero-touch instrumentation of processes to enable observability features. The injector itself is written in Zig. [ Benefits ] Including the injector is an exploratory effort to bring the toolset natively to Ubuntu. Providing an easy-to-use observability toolset can be useful for deployments relying on Ubuntu, and it has a strategic importance for Canonical and the Observability Team. Since this is a new package, no other package depends on it, which makes it a safe candidate for a feature freeze exception. [ Testing ] The package builds from source, and can be installed. Autopkgtests are added following upstream tests written with different tooling. Upstream also distributes .deb packages. We run most of their integration tests with our .deb package, which demonstrates that it can function with upstream language plugins as a replacement for the upstream injector.
