I tested kernel 7.0.0-31-generic (7.0.0-31.31) as requested, but the problem persists on my Dell XPS 13 9340 with the Sharp C71M1 panel. The brightness keys, the GNOME slider, and direct writes to /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness change the reported brightness values, but the physical panel luminance remains unchanged. Therefore, the fix for bug 2161309 does not resolve the issue on this hardware configuration. Please reopen bug 2166520 or advise which additional DRM/i915 diagnostics are required.
