Public bug reported:
fortran-regex 1.1.2-13 and fortran-stdlib 0.8.1-3 fail to build on
Launchpad, even with the current fortran-fpm 0.13 and dh-fortran
0.85ubuntu3:
dh_auto_clean -O--buildsystem=fortran
Error: fc compiler gfortran is broken;bad symlink or missing install?
They build-depend on "gfortran | fortran-compiler" and also directly on
flang-22 and lfortran. flang-22 and lfortran both "Provide: fortran-
compiler", so Launchpad's build-dependency resolver considers the
alternative satisfied and gfortran is never installed. dh-fortran then
can't find its default compiler (FC_DEFAULT / gfortran).
Debian's buildds only use the first alternative of a build-dependency
("Filtered Build-Depends: ... gfortran ..."), so gfortran is always
installed and the packages build there. Ubuntu-specific, because
Launchpad resolves alternatives.
Fix: build-depend on plain gfortran. Tested in a stonking container:
after removing all gfortran packages, the unchanged fortran-regex
1.1.2-13 reproduces the failure exactly, while 1.1.2-13ubuntu1
(gfortran) installs gfortran and builds (ships the gnu, flang and
lfortran libraries). Same for fortran-stdlib 0.8.1-3ubuntu1 (built
against libfortran-testdrive-dev 0.6.1-1).
No other package in stonking combines "gfortran | fortran-compiler" with
flang/lfortran build-dependencies and dh-fortran.
Part of unblocking the fortran-lang stack, LP: #2169679.
