Sorry, just did a test and the prior comment doesn't work. What you'll
need to do is the following:
# Install the proper kernel:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:canonical-kernel-team/ppa -y
$ sudo apt upgrade # This will install 7.0.0-39.39 (without my changes)
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:canonical-kernel-team/ppa -r -y
$ sudo rm
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/canonical-kernel-team-ubuntu-ppa-resolute.sources
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cremfuelled/kernel -y
# This actually installs the fixed kernel (with the proper main-modules
packages)
$ sudo apt install linux-image-unsigned-7.0.0-39-generic \
linux-modules-7.0.0-39-generic \
linux-headers-7.0.0-39 \
linux-headers-7.0.0-39-generic # NOTE: This removes the packages that
handle automatic kernel updates. will be re-added later.
# Reboot
$ sudo reboot
$ uname -r # Should be the new kernel version
# Test
$ # RERUN THE MANUAL TRIM
# Return to prior conditions
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cremfuelled/kernel -r -y
$ sudo apt remove linux-*-7.0.0-39* # Remove the kernel under test
$ sudo apt install linux-generic linux-headers-generic # NOTE: Re-add the
automatic kernel updates packages
