Public bug reported: Device: Goodix "MOC" fingerprint reader, USB 27c6:689a (lsusb: "Goodix USB2.0 MISC", serial UIDE1494F54_XXXX_MOC_B0), Xiaomi laptop.
Problem: on noble, fprintd reports "No devices available" for this sensor because the goodixmoc driver's USB id_table shipped in libfprint 1.94.7+tod1 (all uploads, including 1:1.94.7+tod1-0ubuntu5~24.04.9) does not contain PID 0x689a. Running fprintd with G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all shows: libfprint-context-DEBUG: No driver found for USB device 27C6:689A The table in the noble build contains the 26 IDs from upstream v1.94.7 plus 27c6:66a9, but not 27c6:689a. Upstream libfprint already supports this device: PID 0x689A is present in the goodixmoc id_table in master (libfprint/drivers/goodixmoc/goodix.c) and the sensor is listed as supported (goodixmoc) at https://fprint.freedesktop.org/supported-devices.html I verified locally that adding this single ID to the id_table fully restores functionality: enroll/verify work with the goodixmoc driver unchanged, including previously enrolled fingerprints — only the ID entry is missing. Request: please backport the upstream goodixmoc id_table refresh (27c6:689a and the other newer Goodix MOC IDs) to noble via SRU. Impact note: users who worked around this by building upstream libfprint lose fingerprint authentication silently whenever the libfprint package is upgraded and overwrites the manually installed library. ** Affects: libfprint (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2172218 Title: Goodix fingerprint reader 27c6:689a not recognized: goodixmoc id_table misses this USB ID (supported upstream) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libfprint/+bug/2172218/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
