Public bug reported:

Package/version: Samba 4.23.6-Ubuntu-4.23.6+dfsg-1ubuntu2.2
Server role: standalone server
Services: smbd active; winbind active; samba-ad-dc inactive

Description

On my Ubuntu file server, winbind.service accumulated 1,379 rpcd_lsad
worker processes over approximately four days. The service used 5.2 GiB
of memory and had 1,385 tasks. At the time, smbstatus -p showed no
connected SMB clients.

All workers were children of samba-dcerpcd, itself running under
winbind.service. Each worker showed approximately 3.4 MiB PSS (about 4.6
GiB combined). Restarting winbind immediately reduced the service to
four tasks and 13 MiB of memory, with one rpcd_lsad worker.

** Affects: samba (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
