We observed the same failure. Environment: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, linux-image-azure 7.0.0-1017.17~24.04.1 VM Size: Azure Standard_D16ls_v5 VM in East US
On November 4, 2026 at 02:23:15 UTC, the guest began removing the Mellanox Accelerated Networking virtual function. At 02:23:20 it logged a null-pointer dereference in strlen, with the call chain through kernfs_find_ns, kernfs_remove_by_name_ns, sysfs_remove_bin_file, pci_remove_resource_files, and hv_eject_device_work. The worker exited with interrupts disabled. Azure confirmed a host live migration. The VF slot was offered again at 02:24:26, but the guest recorded no successful VF initialization before reboot. Persistent journal logging and scheduled system-statistics collection also stopped around the removal. Existing web services and new database connections continued until approximately 03:22 UTC, when DNS failures began affecting separate Azure hostnames. Reboot restored service and successful VF initialization. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2172226 Title: linux-azure 7.0.0-1017: NULL pointer dereference in hv_eject_device_work when the host removes the Accelerated Networking VF To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-azure/+bug/2172226/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
