This seems to be a bug with (at least) the intel driver, aparently it also 
exists for some version of ATI but i am unsure if that is being shipped with 
hardy.

for more information, there is apparently a fix there too but it seems to 
involve patching and compiling the driver and i haven't done that as yet.

The simplest although sub optimal work around is to turn off openGL sync
in the video settings. Makes things work ok on my machine, I also upped
the RTC rate to 1024 as recommended by the myth documentation when you
don't have GL for timing.

perhaps the maintainer of xserver-xorg-video-intel could incorporate
those changes until changes are made upstream?
