Colin acpi=noirq removed the problems but exactt above says he still had the problem! Weird - the only difference in what we did was that I removed "quiet" - I can't believe that would make any difference but I've seen weirder things happen :)
I'll do some more experiments shortly and let you know if I can definitely say acpi=noirq on its own affects anything or not.
