This is a common problem, i'm surprised that the solution (pretty simple actually) hasn't been implemented yet, since it can tracked down to feisty. Here's the solution, although its not quite in the vain of "Linux for human beings": sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base or sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base and add "options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 model=3stack" or "options snd-hda-intel model=3stack" Reset.
