This issue still exists in hardy and the solution of forcing users to adapt this behavior is short-sighted.
There are many situations where UUID doesn't work, and we need to have a "correct" way of disabling this behavior since commenting out some lines in update-grub will get overwritten as soon as a new update-grub is released.
