New information--I had been having mixed results for a while--sometimes normal splash screen (logo with text underneath it), alternating red /white-green/black stripes & text only output with my boot line set to splash not quiet splash. This stopped with the grub update of Sept 2nd. Now with splash (and v86d installed) I get bios warning from the time Usplash starts to to whenever I can't stand the noise anymore--this will stay up to & including loaded desktop--If I change back to quiet splash, I get the same as I did before with splash only.
