"M4S2" is "Microsoft ISO MPEG-4 video V1.1" (as per http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms867195.aspx) There's a sample M4S2 video at: http://samples.mplayerhq.hu/V-codecs/M4S2/T2_cif_30fps_768Kbps.asf Please download that and test it; does it give you the same video issues? (don't worry about the sound; it doesn't have any ;) > Opening video decoder: [ffmpeg] FFmpeg's libavcodec codec family > Selected video codec: [ffodivx] vfm: ffmpeg (FFmpeg MPEG-4) In Feisty, try installing gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg and libxine1-ffmpeg and then try playing it in gXine and Totem; does it work now? :) > On the other hand, there are > many environments (like companies) that simply don't want their users to > install packages (or plugins, for that matter).
