When X breaks, use bash. Simple enough. I think at that point, you're a bit more worried about fixing X than having a filebrowser that's your idea of pretty. Not that bash isn't a dandy file browser already, what that "ls" command and all. Honestly, between ls, mv, and cp, is there really any need at all for any file browser? I'm sorry, I didn't know Ubuntu was taking away your right to life by not shipping one specific file browser that you happen to prefer.
