The world is driven by economics, developers need to be paid, and many of those are working for companies that would be classified evil by freedom purists, even though they are working on open source projects.

It certainly was not one of the goals we set, when founding the project. It was all about building a community/contributors around GNOME in Ubuntu (and initially upstream as well, though that never really worked out so much). All we are talking about is a optional communication tool, its not the end of the world if that tool is not FLOSS, and really no one would complain if we hosted our code on github. No one complains when we post on Facebook or g+. And who is going to write/host/support/maintain said FLOSS tool? Its only been 2-3 years and we still dont have the new website.
