Ίσως δεν μπορούν να «σταματήσουν» ένα λογισμικό ανοικτού κώδικα, αλλά μπορούν να τους υποχρεώσουν να αλλάξουν όνομα, είτε άμεσα (με δικαστική απόφαση) είτε έμμεσα (με κίνηση δικαστικής διαδικασίας, στης οποίας το κόστος να μην μπορεί να ανταπεξέλθει ένα έργο ανοικτού κώδικα).
