I'm the Debian OpenHPI maintainer. I don't know what this bug requests, but here are my Debian plans, if it helps the Ubuntu folks:
Currently, 2.14.0 is in Debian testing. Upstream is at 2.14.1. I plan to update Debian unstable to 2.14.1 in the next couple of weeks.
