5657 is a short-code, which is specific to the particular network. Such
codes
can be bought these days, with or without the additional SMS gateway
services.
Most TV shows enter an agreement with the network provider to share the
revenue
in such special SMSes (it's a form of robbery, but that aside...)....the
post
processing of the SMS is very simple, it can be done with an automated
script in almost any language. This is all very expensive stuff, but....

....you can do this on a phone. Like you're giving a lecture, and you ask
your
audience to vote on something by SMS to your phone. The piechart will appear
instantly on your phone, and even on the projector. I've actually done all
this.
