Each month, the OpenSolaris project's marketing guy (Patrick Finch) posts a page of stats. They show what's going on in the OpenSolaris world and how people come across OpenSolaris.
Now, OpenSolaris has the advantage that Sun pays a number of people, including Patrick, to work either full time or part time on the project's marketing. However, I'm pretty certain we could get at least some of this data for Ubuntu.
