As you have requested help and sponsorship in Debian [0] I think it might be wise to just stick with trying to get MMS into Debian rather than splitting the effort between Debian and Ubuntu. Ubuntu will import new Debian packages semi-automatically so it's much better to start there and have your package make it's way to Ubuntu.
