If you're referring to the guide at: http://subversion.ffado.org/wiki/StepByStepUbuntuStudio8.10RT then I can attest to the fact that it was written specifically to address the challenge of making the Ricoh firewire chipset work with ffado (or vice versa). 8.04.1 didn't work (for me) for beans but 8.10RT did. It may have shortcomings elsewhere which is why it was focused on the formula Ricoh+ffado+ardour.
