I would get either Intel or Nvidia. Intel write their own free drivers. Nvidia is supported both by free drivers - which have more or less full functionality, but worse performance for specific things (like realtime audio for some) and the proprietary drivers work pretty smoothly. AMD has free drivers that offer pretty good support for all sorts of cards, but if you want proprietary drivers, you might get problems - depending on the card and the Ubuntu release.
