I have been researching interfaces that work in linux. I tried the duet
because i had access to it. I should have realized at the start that the
prob was that the usb bus is not supplying power to the device. when you
plug it in, the apogee logo lights up, but thats it. the unit is not
actually powered up. it sends a signal to the pc, which lets jack and alsa
recognize it. but no signal is sent back to the device, which means there
is not driver support for it. Before i actually buy an interface, I'll make
sure that it has linux support. Sorry i wasted everyone's time, but i want
to thank everyone for their help.
