I couldn't spot any clues from the error message. Reboot the computer,
so we are sure you have started out fresh. Launch qjackctl. Before
starting jack make sure you have selected the device you want to use.
Then, click "Start".

If you have changed the system somehow, by adding PPAs, or installing
jackd1, or you have configured your jack settings in an improper way,
the method above might not work. Also, using HDMI output may not work.
