Hi Alan Yep, see what you mean about the human factor.
But, how did you know that the promo videos on stands as you were walking around were aimed at other people? Is this your past experience and you deliberately ignore 'em, or do you watch a couple of moments just to make sure that you're not really missing something? There's bound to be some psycological marketing type paper that gives facts and figures, but from a personal viewpoint the promos are normally watched whilst passing the relevant stand. Admittedly only to find out why there are either so many people gathered around this stand or none at all around that stand. And of course it gives the punters something to watch whilst they're waiting to speak to you. Chris, yep something along those lines for content kinda makes sense. But it depends how, well, professional they are. I'll wonder over to the mozilla site you quoted and have a look see later on. Anyhows, thought I'd throw the idea to the floor and see what responses I got. E PS Is everyone on holiday this week as the list seems awful quiet? -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of alan c Sent: 22 August 2007 19:43 To: British Ubuntu Talk Subject: Re: [ubuntu-uk] UK Marketing: Promo Videos Ian Pascoe wrote: > Following on from recent posts about Viral videos and screencasts, is there > such a thing as a promo video / DVD, that could be left runing on something > as part of a stand? > > Just thought that something like that is a trap for people to watch without > necessarily actually having to speak with someone. I have often displayed, prepared with various options, including amarok with visualisations, or a video, or some simple how to's about updates etc. However, the most interest is often when I happen to be messing around in the file managers explaining to someone and doing something or another. I think people are interested in a real (live) situation, and the context of a real person with a word or two is easier to grasp (and more fun) than watching a demo file, probably aimed at a different context. This is similar to what I find for myself when I am wandering past exhibitions. I will often eavesdrop into a demo or conversation, rather than stand and look at a demo playing - which is often aimed at somebody else's situation. hth -- alan cocks Kubuntu user#10391 -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.kubuntu.org/UKTeam/ -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.kubuntu.org/UKTeam/
