What's wrong with the e-mailer? You have a choice of multiple e-mail clients: evolution and Thunderbird being the most popular, but there are many others in the repos.
Far better than Outlook Express or whatever. And I'm not quite sure what the objections to the music clients are either... are you bemoaning the lack of iTunes, perchance?
