I've done this loads of times, TBird usually imports 100% accurately,
the fiddly bit is transferring a profile from TBird to Evolution (if you
should feel the need).
If your XP partition is still mountable, line of least resistance is
probably to do the installation from the live CD and import your
Outlook Express automatically as part of the process. If that doesn't
work, I suspect TBird will happily import the addressbook and mails
separately just from their files. Tools -> import
