Hi Mac,

Thanks for the insight... I am still a bit unsure what is best for me. I
love taking photos, usually its just of family, places we've been out etc,
and sometimes some photos for the sake of good photos. I would like to
increase my skills and feel that shooting in RAW is the best way to go to
allow for editing those few special photos that are worth it.

So far to date, I just shoot in JPEG direct from the camera and end up
with about 800Mb of photos to store in JPEG format every month. Most of
these will never require going to a RAW version for editing.

But I don't want to not use RAE at all as I feel I might miss out on
learning more about digital photography and never get to that place where
you are producing GOOD photos.

So I am contemplating shooting in RAW, doing a conversion on all RAW into
JPEG (ufraw-batch or something). Most of these JPEGs will be good enough
for the family shots. But then its a question of whether to keep all the
RAWs or go through the photos and decide which ones are worth keeping and
then bin the rest.

Just seems difficult and time consuming... I store all my photos online,
on my own personal web server. To store duplicates of all photos in RAW as
well would mean I would rapidly consume large amounts of space, space
which might end up being a waste as I might never go back to 99% of those
RAWs.

Maybe, I could store all the RAWs just locally on an external drive and
keep all my JPEGs online...

Decisions, decisions...
