** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg I have a Dell Latitude E4310 with the latest ubuntu release (10.10) output of uname -a: 2.6.35-23-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 26 17:13:06 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux My LCD display appears only on 1366x768 resolution, no possibility of changing it, and this causes problems when I attach an external monitor (by the way, it detects the external monitor perfecctly) because I cannot do cloning. I have been using linux for many years but my knowledge is a bit rusty. I would like to add some more modelines but is not clear to me how to do it since there is no xorg.conf file and I want to avoid making a mess. I know that there are similar bugs reported and answered: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Resolution#Problem: Resolution with Intel graphics was correct in Intrepid or Jaunty (with no xorg.conf configuration) but is limited in Karmic but it is not clear if they give the answer to my question: the computer is brand new and I have not tried any other distribution on it. Any help is appreciated: Output of parse-edid /sys/class/drm/card0/card0-DisplayPort-1/edid parse-edid: parse-edid version 2.0.0 parse-edid: EDID checksum passed. # EDID version 1 revision 4 Section "Monitor" # Block type: 2:0 3:fe # Block type: 2:0 3:0 Identifier "SEC:4154" VendorName "SEC" ModelName "SEC:4154" # Block type: 2:0 3:fe # Block type: 2:0 3:0 # DPMS capabilities: Active off:no Suspend:no Standby:no Mode "1366x768" # vfreq 59.998Hz, hfreq 47.398kHz DotClock 72.140000 HTimings 1366 1414 1446 1522 VTimings 768 770 775 790 Flags "-HSync" "+VSync" EndMode Mode "1366x768" # vfreq 39.996Hz, hfreq 31.597kHz DotClock 48.090000 HTimings 1366 1414 1446 1522 VTimings 768 770 775 790 Flags "-HSync" "+VSync" EndMode # Block type: 2:0 3:fe # Block type: 2:0 3:0 EndSection formaggia@minnie:~$ formaggia@minnie:~$ formaggia@minnie:~$ formaggia@minnie:~$ cat /etc/re reader.conf.d/ resolvconf/ resolv.conf formaggia@minnie:~$ cat /etc/re reader.conf.d/ resolvconf/ resolv.conf formaggia@minnie:~$ cat /etc/u ucf.conf updatedb.conf update-notifier/ udev/ update-manager/ usb_modeswitch.conf ufw/ update-motd.d/ usb_modeswitch.d/ formaggia@minnie:~$ cat /etc/u ucf.conf updatedb.conf update-notifier/ udev/ update-manager/ usb_modeswitch.conf ufw/ update-motd.d/ usb_modeswitch.d/ formaggia@minnie:~$ uname -a Linux minnie 2.6.35-23-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 26 17:13:06 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux formaggia@minnie:~$ sudo parse-edid /sys/class/drm/card0/card0-DisplayPort-1/edid parse-edid: parse-edid version 2.0.0 parse-edid: EDID checksum passed. # EDID version 1 revision 4 Section "Monitor" # Block type: 2:0 3:fe # Block type: 2:0 3:0 Identifier "SEC:4154" VendorName "SEC" ModelName "SEC:4154" # Block type: 2:0 3:fe # Block type: 2:0 3:0 # DPMS capabilities: Active off:no Suspend:no Standby:no Mode "1366x768" # vfreq 59.998Hz, hfreq 47.398kHz DotClock 72.140000 HTimings 1366 1414 1446 1522 VTimings 768 770 775 790 Flags "-HSync" "+VSync" EndMode Mode "1366x768" # vfreq 39.996Hz, hfreq 31.597kHz DotClock 48.090000 HTimings 1366 1414 1446 1522 VTimings 768 770 775 790 Flags "-HSync" "+VSync" EndMode # Block type: 2:0 3:fe # Block type: 2:0 3:0 EndSection ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: xorg 1:7.5+6ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-23.36-generic 2.6.35.7 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-23-generic x86_64 Architecture: amd64 DRM.card0.DisplayPort.1: status: connected enabled: enabled dpms: On modes: 1366x768 1366x768 edid-base64: AP///////wBMo0FUAAAAAP8UAQSVHRB4CiDll1lSiScdUFQAAAABAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBLhxWnFAAFjAwICUAJaUQAAAayRJWnFAAFjAwICUAJaUQAAAaAAAA/gBYRjkzMIExMzNBVAogAAAAAAAAQQEWAAAAAAkBCiAgAJw= DRM.card0.DisplayPort.2: status: disconnected enabled: disabled dpms: Off modes: edid-base64: DRM.card0.DisplayPort.3: status: disconnected enabled: disabled dpms: Off modes: edid-base64: DRM.card0.HDMI_Type_A.1: status: disconnected enabled: disabled dpms: Off modes: edid-base64: DRM.card0.HDMI_Type_A.2: status: disconnected enabled: disabled dpms: Off modes: edid-base64: DRM.card0.VGA.1: status: disconnected enabled: disabled dpms: Off modes: edid-base64: Date: Thu Oct 28 09:08:48 2010 DkmsStatus: blcr, 0.8.2: added vboxhost, 3.2.10, 2.6.35-23-generic, x86_64: installed vboxhost, 3.2.10, 2.6.36-020636-generic, x86_64: installed vboxhost, 3.2.10, 2.6.35-22-generic, x86_64: installed (WARNING!
