These are definitely a cause for a serious crash, these have happened always with Jaunty. The log entries always looked the same right before X goes. With vanilla Ubuntu, and not Xfce, this tends to cause a hard lock, ie. even Alt-SysRq-K does not work, but you need to hold the power button for 5 secs to hard shut down.
