Right; hybrid graphics switching is not supported in Ubuntu at this
time.  There are various experimental solutions out on the interwebs you
could try, but we only support booting with the base graphics (sandy
bridge).

One work around you could try is blacklisting the i915 module from being
loaded.  Theoretically that should permit nouveau to pick up the
graphics and go.  Again though, this is not a supported configuration.
