Is there any timeline for when this fix will be available through the normal driver installation / activation procedure in Ubuntu? I see that some people have had success with 259.49, but it's still not what is being installed via System Settings -> Additional Drivers (still 259.40). It's not that I am not grateful for the person(s) who created/posted the fix, but I'm unweary about installing drivers from untrusted sources. Since 259.40 is causing problems for quite a lot of people, why hasn't the version been changed? Am I overlooking something (entirely possible, as I'm new to Linux, at least on a workstation)?
