I switched to the ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver, and I got just the same - freeze when using LibreOfficer writer (this time when selecting text).
So perhaps this in an xorg bug, not just the nouveau drivers, or perhaps the same bug is in both drivers. Can we move this to "High" importance? In addition to the reasons described before, I for one am in the position where I have no alternative - the other drivers give the same result, and I cannot use LibreOffice for typically more than a few minutes without a full freeze that basically requires a reboot to fix. This is a very high impact bug!
