Having previously commented on this bug about my work PC (with multicore CPU), on my home PC I've just switched from a single (32-bit) to a dual core (64-bit) CPU, and only now is this bug affecting my home PC (this is without upgrading to 64-bit Ubuntu). I tried the PPA listed above, only to be greeted by an unusable desktop upon login, so it's nouveau for me, for now at least.
